TIRANA – As the updated figure of the affected citizens with Covid-19 jumped to 55 on Tuesday, Albanian health authorities have decided to set up a new quarantine hospital in Tirana turning the ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’ Sanatorium as the second quarantine center adding to the existing infectious hospital.
The news was made public by the Director of the Institute of the Public Health (ISHP), Silva Bino in a press conference on Tuesday during which she revealed that the number of the citizens affected with Covid-19 is up with 4 new cases.
“Until now the total number of the affected citizens is 55, and the highest figure is in Tirana where there are 38 cases,” she said.
In the meantime Ms. Bino informed that out of 89 employees of the medical staff of the sanatorium ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’, who have been tested, 8 of them resulted to be infected with Covid-19. “They all have been self- quarantined and they are in a stable situation. The hospital “Shefqet Ndroqi” will be turned into a Covid medical quarantine to reduce the flow of patients to the infectious hospital,” she said, adding that the health ministry is taking measures to add over 2200 volunteers who have responded to the appeal to help the medical staff against coronavirus.
Further on, the ISHP director said efforts were being made to cut the chain of the transmission of the infection. “Our work is focused on this direction for the moment. Please do not go immediately to the hospital,” was her appeal to the citizens, who, as a matter of fact, have been gripped by a great fear from the spread of Covid-19 in Albania./argumentum.al
