TIRANA – All the 13 new cases confirmed with coronavirus on Sunday were registered in the seaside city of Durres one of the six red zones declared by the government last week, which will continue in a stricter lockdown as compared with the rest of Albania, a Balkan country hit by the outbreak of the pandemic since March 9 this year.
“The new 13 cases are a continuity of the previous infections found in a textile workshop in this region,” said the daily medical bulleting released by the health ministry on Sunday. According to its data, 260 citizens were tested during the last 24 hours, and the epidemiological investigation is going on in this region.
The total number of the coronavirus affected persons has amounted to 946 which are a result of 12,500 tests carried out at a national level. The ministry noted that 76 percent of the infected patients have recovered while there are 200 active case mainly in Tirana, Durres Kruje, Shkoder, Kamez and Berat.
Some 17 patients are currently hospitalized and only 3 are in intensive therapy the lowest figures ever recorded so far. Specialists consider this fact positive as they have feared greatly an ‘inundation’ of Albania’s debilitated health system.
On Monday a smoother lockdown kicks off with most of the small and medium-sized businesses opening their shutters under respective special health protocols. /argumentum.al
