TIRANA – The first day of the fifth week since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Albania started with confirmation of 21 cases during the last 24 hours a rising shift from previous days when there was a low tally of the infected people.
Director of the Institute of Public Health, Albana Fico said on Monday the total number of infected reached 467, while the 21 new cases of last 24 hours is not so distant to the peak of April 4, which registered 29 cases.
In addition, Ms. Said that there are 52 patients receiving treatment in two COVID-19 Hospitals in Tirana out of whom 14 patients are being in intensive therapy. In the meantime 7 patients are in intubation.
“Yesterday, 193 suspected infected persons were tested, and 21 of them resulted positive. So far, 4070 suspected cases have been tested and 467 cases in total have been confirmed positive,” said the medical official.
“Health Ministry urged citizens to continue to respect social distancing rules. The ease of movement measures requires responsibility on the part of citizens. They must continue to respect the necessary distance between each other and maintain personal hygiene,” said Fico.
The number of fatalities stands at 23 patients while it is considered as good news that 15 more patients have recovered rising to 232 the total number of people winning the battle with Covid-19.
A rough look at Monday’s figure of the cases confirmed with the virus indicates that more than half of them were found out in the northern city of Shkodra, which has become a hotbed of the epidemic during the last days. The perfect of the city was fired because of negligence.
