TIRANA – Tirana has registered the highest number of new cases infected with coronavirus in Albania, said an official of the Health Ministry on Sunday while unveiling the daily medical bulletin.
According to the data shown by Gentiana Qirjako of Health Ministry, Tirana had 8 new cases during the last 24 hours as the total number stood at 12 a double increase as compared with a day earlier when 6 cases were reported. The other cases were found out in Kamza (2 cases), Kruja (1 case) and Fier (1 case). The four cities are included in the red map announced by the government which will continue to have stricter restrictions as compared with the majority of Albania. A more relaxed situation will start on Monday with a lot of businesses opening their shutters under a rigorous safety protocol, PM Edi Rama declared on Saturday.
The latest increase in number of new coronavirus cases brings the total number of people infected by COVID – 19 to 868 since its outbreak on March 9 this year when patient 0 was discovered.
“One day ago, there were only 6 cases in 24 hours, but the situation of the whole week is considered under control as the news daily cases have not gone beyond 17,” said Qirjako, who noted that that there are 29 hospitalized patients and 4 of them are in intensive care.
“Besides, there is good news also regarding the number of recovered patients as 650 in total, or 75% of the infected, have beaten the novel virus and only 187 are active patients,” she said.
“The epidemiological situation in the country is stable, based on the identification of cases so far and the epidemiological investigation actively,” said the health official./argumentum.al
