TIRANA – In its fourth month since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic the spread of the deadly disease in Albania is taking worrisome proportions while local health officials repeat calls on citizens to show caution towards the virus.
“If we cooperate, I believe that at least within 10 days the situation will be stabilized because that is the period when the results are seen,” said Deputy Health Minister and Head of the Technical Committee, Mira Rakacolli in a local TV talk show on Wednesday evening.
The daily bulletin released on Thursday by Flutura Beqo, specialist at the Ministry of Health confirmed 78 new cases of infected persons which is an increase compared to a day before. “During the last 24 hours, 344 tests were performed to suspected persons with coronaviru , of which 78 resulted positive,” said Beqo who specified that Shkodra had the highest number of daily affected with 14 cases followed by Kruja (13) and Tirana (12) during the last 24 hours.
Being on the same wavelength with Ms. Rakacolli, the statement of the health ministry urged all citizens to respect physical distancing and wear face masks when the distance cannot be maintained.
The evidence provided by the health specialist shows that cases of the infection were found in 19 cities and towns of Albania, a geographical spread which makes the situation serious.
In the meantime the number of fatalities has increased and it stood at 49 on Thursday, while 76 patients are currently being treated at the infectious disease hospital and 14 of them are in intensive care and 2 are intubated.
But Ms. Beqo considered as good news the fact that 33 citizens recovered bringing the number of cured persons to 1,250 since the outbreak of the pandemic. /argumentum.al
