TIRANA – The new coronavirus cases of the last 24 hours were found out in Capital Tirana and the town of Kruja where, according to the daily update announced by the Public Health Institute (ISHP) on Friday 5 and 4 suspected infected persons respectively were confirmed positive.
The 9 new cases have brought the total number of infected people to 782 in Albania, has said ISHP expert Rovena Daja, who added that the number of fatalities stands at 31.
But the health expert announced that the map of the recovered patients from the disease has expanded across this Balkan country.
Currently, there are 263 patients with COVID-19 in Albania and most of them are being treated by family doctors or are asymptomatic, while currently in two COVID hospitals, in the infectious disease hospital and the hospital “Shefqet Ndroqi” in Tirana, 33 patients are hospitalized and only 7 of them are in intensive care.
“This is an indication that the measures, which have been taken, have made it possible for the health system not to be strained and to successfully cope with cases that needed specialized treatment in hospitals,” said Daja in her statement.
In the talk shows on local TVs on Thursday night some medical specialists find it hard to explain the evidence of the curve which shows the progress of the infection with daily ups and downs being considered by some as ‘weird’ not seen in other countries, including regional ones. This has led to the steady claims that the government hides the true results in an effort to justify the minimum number of tests as compared to other countries. The Mayor of Shkodra, Voltana Ademi said bluntly that the number of fatalities in the northern town of Shkodra, considered a bastion of the opposition Democratic Party, is much higher than the figure made public. /argumentum.al
