TIRANA – “The epidemiological situation in the country is stable, based on the identification of new cases, their active investigation and the number of patients being treated in hospital,” said Eugena Tomini of the Institute of Public Health (ISHP) in the daily medical update on Monday highlighting that there were two confirmed new infected cases with coronavirus.
This is the lowest figure ever registered since the outbreak of the pandemic on March 9 this year which coincided with the ease of the restrictions which turn almost into normalcy the situation in this Balkan country, particularly in the so called yealor areas.
Capital Tirana is still listed in the red zones with itc citizens having no right to move out of the lockdown perimeter. Also, no one can enter Tirana from other part of the country.
”168 citizens were tested and 2 citizens resulted positive in Durres. The new cases are contacts of people who are already positive, while the active epidemiological investigation in the field is continuing,” said Tomini, who noted that 12 patients recovered during the last day.
In the meantime it is reported that a total of 948 citizens across the country have been found out positive with COVID-19, and over 12,500 tests have been performed so far.
”There are currently 190 active people with COVID-19, mainly in Tirana, Durres, Kruja, Shkodra. 15 patients are hospitalized and only 3 of them are in intensive care,” said ISHP’s Tomini.
Due to the drop of the number of the coronavirus cases the health minister, Ogerta Manastirliu announced on Monday, as quoted by Klan TV, the closure of the number 2 ‘COVID – 19′ hospital in Tirana and the return to normalcy of the health system in Albania.
Physical distancing measures, conscious self-isolation and hygiene measures played a major role to maintain a mild epidemic curve in Albania, said local health authorities. /argumentum.al
