There is a worrying increase of criminality in Albania with an alarming trend of sexual abuse of children and family violence, said the General Director of the State Police, Gledis Nano while reporting to the committee on national security on Wednesday.
Nano said 27,000 criminal offenses were registered of which 24,000 were discovered during the period from January 1 to October 31 this year. Compared to the same period a year ago, there are 1,500 more offenses. What is worrying is the increase in criminal offenses in domestic violence, but also in road traffic.
“The worrying figure is that 1337 criminal offenses are domestic violence. Protection orders have been issued for 2,754 cases, 370 more than last year,” said the top police.
In the meantime Nano reported on 893 cases of juveniles affected by various criminal offenses, especially from accidents and domestic violence.
“Sex crimes have affected 67 juveniles while 1,600 juveniles are involved in criminal activities,” he said.
Nano unveiled that there were 56 assassinations and 30 percent of homicides were domestic violence, said Nano.
Regarding criminal groups he said 40 have been hit. “A total of 419 operations have been carried out, and 78 of them were conducted with international partners; as a result 1,646 wrongdoers have been apprehended by the police, but 3,123 criminals are wanted. / Argumentum.al
