TIRANA, April 27 – Croatian President Zoran Milanovic declared on Thursday in a joint press conference with the Albanian President Bajram Begaj, who is on an official visit to Croatia, that official Zagreb supports the process of Albania’s membership in the European Union.
According to the local media, Milanovic was very critical, blaming the EU for prejudicing Albania in the accession process in the Union.
“I don’t want to make a mistake here, Albania, technically, in the majority is a country inhabited by citizens of the Muslim faith and not only. This has apparently become a problem in Western Europe. If we do not help Albania to become part of the West as soon as possible, someone else will come,” he declared.
Even the head of the Albanian state has spoken about other actors who want to hinder Albania’s rapid membership in the EU.
Both Presidents shared the same position that the independence of Kosovo is a reality and that the integrity of this state cannot be violated.
“Put aside the empty and nationalist rhetoric. Balkan leaders should behave not as politicians, but as statesmen. Kosovo is a sovereign, independent state and the territorial integrity of Kosovo cannot be questioned,” Begaj declared.
In the meantime, Milanovic said the reality is that Kosovo is part of Europe, which in the not-too-distant future will be recognized by EU countries.
Milonovic and Begaj also talked about economic cooperation between the two countries, which are linked by a strategic partnership. Milanovic emphasized the necessity of the connection through the road infrastructure of the Port of Durrës with that of Plloca to facilitate the exchange of goods. /Argumentum.al
