TIRANA, February 10 – The General Secretary of the Socialist Party (SP), Damian Gjiknuri, was in the special prosecution for serious crimes, SPAK on Friday as a person who has knowledge of the circumstances of an investigation that the prosecution is conducting for the implementation of the road project Tirana-Elbasan.
Gjiknuri told the media that he had testified about the violations he found when he was minister for this project.
“I was to testify about my role as a Minister in finding one of the biggest abuses in the history of roads in Albania. The Tirana-Elbasan road, which was contracted for 250 million euros, ended up costing 400 million euros. I gave my explanations to the Prosecutor’s Office, so I have nothing to add,” he said.
In December 2017, when he held the position of Minister of Infrastructure, Damian Gjiknuri reported to the Prosecutor’s Office the former head of the ARRSH for violations in the construction of the Tirana-Elbasan road.
For the same project in 2018, the Prosecution for Serious Crimes investigated the former director of the Road Authority, Dashamir Gjika, and the two project management directors, who were acquitted in the Court of Tirana. /Argumentum.al
