The members of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party (DP) held a 6-hour meeting on Saturday, and after heated and tense discussions, the deputies think, according to media reports, that both Sali Berisha and Lulzim Basha should take a ‘step back’.
The number of high DP officials who demand the resignation of Basha has increased with two deputy heads Jorida Tabaku and Enkelejd Alibeaj joining the group of those ‘advising’ their chairman to resignd after DP’s loss in March 6 local elections in 6 municipalities.
Speaking after boycotting the meeting of the parliamentary group, DP deputy Tomorr Alizoti declared that resignation is a personal responsibility and the words ‘steps behind’ are tactics. According to him, “DP is no longer a political party.” He stated for the media that a large number of deputies have demanded the resignation of the leader of the Democrats, Basha.
“A large part is about the resignation and the deputies spoke brilliantly. And if we want to be part of the west it must be accepted resignation. This is the Western model, the Putinist model is to stay in power,” he said.
Lulezim Basha, according to him, used the word ‘step back’. “I finally realized that he will not resign. Resignation is a personal responsibility, the party must remove the bars; this is no longer a political party.”
Further on he asked the questions why it is so hard to quit when you do not win. “We have reached ridiculous dimensions. The party has become a kindergarten.”
While emphasizing that the parliamentary group can not exclude Basha, Alizoti considered everything that is happening in the DP as a rare case in the universe.
There were also proposals to hold elections focusing on rebuilding trust among Democrats. It is also proposed to set up a joint commission with the DP Re-establishment Group headed by Berisha. /Argumentum.al
