The veteran leader of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha has declared on a local TV talk show that he will run again for party chairman.
Berisha said on Thursday that his re-election to return to the helm of the DP was signed by 70% of Democratic voters in the March 6 elections.
“My candidacy was signed by 70% of DP voters who voted on March 6 for its candidates. Even if I wanted it would be an unforgivable betrayal of them,” Berisha said.
The former Prime Minister also spoke about the two expected court decisions on the National Assembly of July 17, and that of December 11, which dismissed the DP head, Lulzim Basha and changed the statute of the DP.
“We have no problem with tomorrow’s decision on the Assembly of July 17. Regarding the next decision we expect to respect that unique historical monument that gathered at the stadium ‘Air Albania’ on December 11,” said Berisha.
“I am working as hard as I can to send conciliatory messages to the party grassroots. The main task in this period is to unite the Democrats,” Berisha said. Asked about the expected April 30 Assembly, he waited that MPs come to that event.
He meant those MPs who backed Basha earlier but have changed mind asking for his resignation
“The deputies will be welcomed by all, without exception. They will have the right to run for the chairmanship, etc. Any of them can run for party chairman after the race opens. I expect everyone to participate,” said Berisha. /Argumentum.al
