TIRANA – A new government cannot be established without new elections, has said the head of the caretaker government, Albin Kurti in a comment on his FB account quoted by daily Express on Sunday.
In a response to President Hashim Thaci the outgoing premier has completely overlooked the two possibilities provided by the Constitution for the establishment of the government, saying that extraordinary elections should be announced to be held after the coronavirus pandemic based on past practices.
“Before asking for the name of the candidate from Vetevendosje the President must think about the election date as he should implement the Constitution rather than interpret it,” said Kurti, who was dismissed by parliament in a no – confidence motion last Wednesday.
“The Constitution has made it clear that a successful no-confidence motion produces elections and not another government,” noted the caretaker PM explaining that there is a fundamental difference between the situation in which the government head resigns and the no-confidence motion against the government in parliament.
According to him, the March 25, 2020 no-confidence motion was of a destructive character as it aimed at toppling the government./argumentum.al
