TIRANA, November 4 – Prime Minister Edi Rama conducted an interview on his “Flasim” (Let’s speak) podcast with the well-known British historian, author and journalist, Timothy Garton Ash on Saturday.
One of the topics of discussion was “Brexit”, Britain’s exit from the European Union. The British historian has said that ‘Brexit’ was the ‘biggest political setback of his life’.
“For me, Brexit was the biggest political defeat of my life. My whole life has revolved around Europe, I am an English European, so the separation of Britain from Europe is a tragedy for Britain, but I also think about the European Union and the future of Europe,” said Ash.
But during the conversation, the British historian criticized Tony Blair’s government, which, according to him, was one of the causes that led to Britain’s exit from the EU.
He thought that one of the mistakes that Tony Blair made was to believe that it was possible to just have openness, openness, openness. “If there was an opening of society, an opening of finances, an opening of the economy, an opening of immigration without any reaction! Because there was actually a reaction.”
According to him, this was a mistake of the ‘Blair years’, which was paid dearly by the UK. “But the fact that we are now trying to bring it under control, like all other European countries, does not mean that it is the end of our cultural diversity, it is beyond it,” said the historian.
But Prime Minister Rama said that he should not talk about Blair in his presence. “Don’t touch Tony Blair in my presence. Just don’t touch him,” said Rama. Furthermore, Timothy Garton Ash has stated that he was a friend of Tony Blair. “Look, I’m a friend of Tony Blair. He is old enough to admit his mistakes,” said the historian.
But Rama reiterated that he did not want to talk about Tony Blair in his presence. “No, I’m not speaking of him. He can speak for himself and deal with his mistakes. But I am a fanatic of his, so don’t touch Tony Blair,” said the Albanian PM decisively. /argumentum.al
