The Democratic Party (DP) Chairman, Lulzim Basha called on the government on Monday to consider two opposition proposals: reducing the VAT on basket foods from 20 to 6 percent and the immediate abolition of the Rama tax on fuel from 240 ALL per liter.
“As we follow with concern the brutal and unprovoked attack of Russia on Ukraine and stand firm by the people of that country in these difficult days in the hope that this aggression against a sovereign state in violation of international law will stop as soon as possible here, in our country, we have a duty to minimize the consequences of this war as soon as possible,” Basha said in a statement to the media on Monday.
He said that the Russian aggression against Ukraine is expected to have a negative impact on the economy starting with grain prices and the difficulty of securing it to the price of fuel, and consequently to other products and services.
So, Basha called on the Albanian government to be transparent about the state of government reserves, the plan of measures it has compiled to help families in need, which even in the current conditions find it difficult to meet basic needs.
The Democrat head said that further increase in the price of fuel, which has long become unaffordable, will also have immediate consequences for every family and entrepreneur.
“For this reason, I call on the government to reconsider two measures proposed by the Democratic Party: Reduction of VAT on basket foods from 20 to 6 percent and immediate removal of the Rama tax on fuel of 240 lek per liter,” said Basha. / Argumentum.al
