TIRANA, August 21 – The Democratic Party (DP) lawmaker, Gazment Bardhi has called on President Bajram Begaj to convene the National Security Council of Albania after alleged Russian, Ukrainian and Czech spies tried to get information on military objects in this Balkan country. “The President of the Republic has the institutional obligation to urgently convene the meeting of the National Security Council to assess the level of security in the military facilities of the Albanian state,” said Bardhi in a post on social media on Sunday.
Two Russians and a Ukrainian citizen were detained in Gramsh while four Czechs were arrested in Pelican in separate events on Saturday night and Sunday.
According to Bardhi, the responsible authorities have the obligation to clarify and make full transparency about the circumstances of the events in Gramsh and Polican, including the performance of the Albanian institutions of intelligence and national security.
“The military facilities of the Albanian state cannot be treated as “inns without gates”, as in fact (PM) Edi Rama has turned the state and public institutions,” said the Democrat deputy.
