Opposition Democratic Party (DP) has indicted former Minister Damian Gjiknurin at the special prosecution office for serious crimes (SPAK), and in a statement released on Saturday, DP deputy Lefter Geshtenja said there was evidence that Gjiknuri was involved in the incinerators affair. According to him, the evil does not end with the abuse of 430 million euros, as in his view it deepens even more, adding that the incinerators of Elbasan and Fier will be sucking holes for the state budget.
The Albanian government has signed three concession contracts for the construction of waste incinerators during the period 2014-2017 for which the state is expected to pay, periodically from the beginning of concessions, more than 430 million euros in the coming years to the concession companies, he said adding that about 90 million euros have already been paid by the government.
“As it has already been proven by the evidence and the lawsuits that we as DP have sent to SPAK, the procedure of the Elbasan incinerator concession has no legal basis,” said the deputy who added that one of the responsible ministers is also Mr. Gjiknuri who gave his consent to former imprisoned minister Koka for this procedure.
According to Geshtenja, the chain involved in these procedures should be held accountable and are the former mayors, the respective commissions, the general directors involved, the secretaries of the ministries, the ministers, the secretary general of the prime minister and the prime minister himself.
“Albanians must understand that if they were not signed by the ministers and the prime minister, these concessions would not be implemented,” concluded Geshtenja. / Argumentum.al
