Speaking about the prolongation of the vetting process of the judiciary system in the Assembly, the deputy chairwoman of the Democratic Party (DP), Jorida Tabaku stated on Thursday that the DP had come to vote, not that the Socialist Party says so.
“A reform that started with the best intentions, at least on our part, with the best intentions to implement it for the justice system and it was not a new reform, we had years of discussing, even before 2013, about the need for a justice reform,” she said.
Unfortunately, according to her, the cooperation with the approval of the constitutional changes, as in any case, by the Rama government, was violated with both feet in the voting of the 6 laws of the Justice Reform. “One of them was Wetting law. The Vetting Act, as it was made and implemented, actually gave the Democratic Party the right to fail. For me, the process of implementing the Vetting, as the progress report says, and I presented the progress report here, has been extremely problematic,” Tabaku said.
According to her, today the courts are out of order and the Supreme Court can not create a quorum to elect members for the Constitutional Court in Albania.
“Today the pro-report says: There are 36,000 files which can not be reviewed in the courts and citizens turn around the courts only as a result of the lack of political will of this party here (majority), which did not want to listen and aceept reasons then, Tabaku said.
The Constitutional amendments to prolong the mandate of the Vetting bodies, the Independent Qualification Commission and the Public Commission were voted by 118 deputies by the 140- member Parliament. There were no votes against.
The EU Delegation to Tirana, the OSCE and the US encouraged all the parliamentary forces to back the amendments.
