TIRANA, August 16 – The deputy chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Oerd Bylykbashi has reacted regarding the detention of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri.
In a statement to the media on Wednesday, Bylykbashi said that no law prohibits Beleri from being sworn in as mayor.
“Fredi Beleri has received the mandate from CEC. No law in Albania prevents the swearing in of Fredi Beleri as the elected mayor of Himara even though he is a defendant in custody. According to the Constitution, he is innocent and enjoys all constitutional and legal rights. Prime Minister Edi Rama himself prevents him from taking the oath illegally, or better to say applying the law of the mafia,” said Bylykbashi.
According to him, the election of Beleri as mayor of Himara ruins the plans of Prime Minister Edi Rama. “Rama thought that by arresting Beler, he would kill two birds with one stone: he would get rid of an opponent, who would hinder him in his plan to rob the properties of Albanian citizens on the coast and at the same time hit the opposition as if it were buying votes.”
Speaking on behalf of the Democratic Party, he stated that the immediate release of Beleri from political imprisonment and his return to the office for which he was elected is a non-negotiable demand of the DP and the Opposition and only one step in the restoration of free and fair elections in Albania. /argumentum.al
