TIRANA – “Edi Rama cannot put into quarantine the truth and opposition,” the Democratic Party (DP) has said in response to accusations of the majority that opposition leaders were creating panic among the population regarding the coronavirus infection.
“There is no suing or litigation which can prevent the Democratic Party to raise its voice for the security of the citizens,” it is said in DP’s statement released on Thursday.
“Without ideas, unprepared and irresponsible, Edi Rama is trying to place the truth into quarantine,” said the statement which noted that the premier was doing the utmost to politicize opposition’s denouncements which shed light on his failure and his government to face the situation created by coronavirus.
“This time Edi Rama’s failure endangers lives, and so no suing, litigation or threat can prevent us from the mission to tell the truth,” said the statement.
The number of the affected citizens has amounted to 23 in Albania, while a woman passed away last Wednesday because of the Covid-19.
The statement of the DP refers to the denouncements made against Rama by former Democrat premier Sali Berisha with regard to the passing away of a woman affected by the virus in Durres and the distribution of 1.2 million expired masks to the medical staff.
“The truth is that the government took no preventive measures against the spread of the virus on time. The statements of Edi Rama and health minister that they had taken measures were proved by the facts to be lies,” DP said, adding that the government delayed for two days the decision to close activities in indoors premises where large number of people gather.
In addition, as the DP said, the government has taken no measures to ease the businesses which have been ordered to suspend their activities from taxes and social/health securities. It also blames the government for failing to make possible the normal functioning of the emergency telephone number 127.
On Thursday for the first time the warning of PM Edi Rama on the situation was more alarming than before when he said: “This is a flu which can affect a huge number of us. 80 percent of each of us could have it (the virus). However even if we do not feel anything, it is up to all of us to protect the elderly and sick people around us because if we transmit it to them we have made them a ‘creeping present’ to them.” /argumentum.al
