The chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha said that he was ready to do everything in the best interest of the DP for it to be strong and united, avoiding to answer if he would resign.
A group of deputies among whom two deputy heads of the party has demanded Basha’s resignation in face of the fifth loss of DP since 2013.
“I do not prejudge what will happen without talking to collaborators, to people. Currently, the heads of the branches have contacts with the grassroots structures, as well as the deputies. So, we are in a process of reflection and for the reflection to be done properly, we must first of all respect those people who have their opinions, bring the opinions of others,” said Basha in a press conference on Thursday.
Basha’s resignation was demanded even after the loss of the April 24 general elections which were won by the Socialist Party that rules Albania in its third mandate. PM Edi Rama has repeatedly stated that SP will win a fourth mandate against DP.
“It’s a deep reflection process with one goal: The best interest of the Democrats, without distinction, because it is clear that one of the main reasons is the division and conflict between us. I am ready to do everything in the best interest of the Democratic Party. But you have to have a little patience to anticipate things when we are in a process of reflection. It is not even wise,” said Basha.
Basha stressed that the Democrats should not miss the great lesson of March 6, which is the necessity to be as strong and united as possible. He mentioned the word ‘reflection’ many times.
Regarding the discussions in the Assembly, Basha said that, “today the Incinerators Commission is being discussed, I hope they will pay attention to all that work which has been done and the Democratic Party, our commission members, the citizens deserve transparency in the Incinerator Commission.” /Argumentum.al
