TIRANA, May 20 – The Democrats will not do any analysis on the causes of the election loss, without first documenting all the evidence for the alleged manipulations in the local elections held on May 14.
“Documentation of this violation is extremely important. Decisions based on this documentation are even more important,” said Berisha in a meeting with Democrat activists on Saturday.
Berisha admitted that a re-opening of the party is needed and he sees the overthrow of Edi Rama as possible only with protests and civil disobedience, decisions which will be taken after the analysis of the defeat.
“With Edi Rama, there is no choice. Without a peaceful movement, without civil disobedience, there are no elections and voting here.”
He said that DP has had financial difficulties, which has not enabled a campaign with immigrants, whose vote, according to Berisha, would bring change. “Edi Rama does not want them to vote,” he said.
Berisha expressed the opinion that compulsory voting would be a solution to stop vote buying. “Compulsory voting will invalidate the purchase of the right to vote.”
But the changes to the code require the votes of the opposition and the majority and Berisha is ready to do this cooperation with Rama.
“I would not accept any form of cooperation with Edi Rama other than changing the electoral law. Which he does not accept,” said the DP head.
Berisha did not share the opinion of some of his followers who see the coalition with Ilir Meta as one of the reasons for the defeat, as he knows many contributions to the Freedom Party. “The Freedom Party has been completely loyal,” said Berisha. /argumentum.al
