Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has apologized for his accusations against the Director for the Western Balkans at the Directorate-General for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) of the European Commission, Genoveva Ruiz Calavera accotding to which she was bought with money by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Berisha made the self denial in a TV talk show on Tuesday saying that his status was made on the basis of a fake news, while he apologized for his accusations.
Earlier Berisha, a veteran leader of Democratic Party, considered Calavera
as part of an international scandal, stressing that after the former EU ambassador to Tirana, Romana Vlahutin, Calavera is also part of the “structured mafia network Tirana-Brussels”.
In his Tuesday’s denial, which is a rare thing for Berisha, claimed his status was based on a fake news.
“I fully believe in the denial made by EU Commissioner Varhelyi, which I consider to be a serious and transparent man who tries to help Albania as much as he can. There is no reason to doubt his denial,” he said.
The former PM concluded by saying: “I apologize for my status based on a fake news. I believe other comments are unnecessary.” /argumentum.al
