TIRANA, March 29 – The chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha, has said that Albania is suffering from depopulation like never before in history since 1870.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Berisha said that Albania has lost 1 million Albanians in 8 years, or 35% of the population.
According to Berisha, the departure of Albanians from the country comes from insecurity, because in 2015 alone, according to him, 37,000 Albanians were arrested.
Berisha said that the Democratic Party, with specific demographic policies, will create the conditions for citizens not to leave the country.
“Albania has absolutely everything, every potential and opportunity to be one of the countries with the healthiest demographics in the region and Europe. The DP will set its feet first on creating the conditions for people to stay in Albania. Secondly, with specific demographic policies that are vital and necessary to cope with this terrible depopulation,” said Berisha. /Argumentum.al
