TIRANA, June 26 – The chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha has reacted regarding the decision of Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) not to grant a special permit to the elected chairman of Himara, Fredi Beleri.
He considered the decision as partisanship, while adding that the court implemented the party’s order.
Berisha accused Prime Minister Rama of targeting Beleri from the very beginning, ordering his arrest, while now he refused his bail denying the citizens of Himara “the fruit of a free vote”. Monday was scheduled as the day when the new Mayor of Himara, Beleri would take his oath.
“The GJKKO has thus implemented the party order, and not the norms of the rule of law, denying the winning candidate to take the oath and the citizens of Himara the fruit of free vote and representation,” he said.
According to Berisha, Beleri is detained as a political prisoner, as an opposition candidate and as the elected mayor of the citizens of Himara, and not as a vote abuser. “If it were for manipulations, thefts and abuses there would be 53 SP candidates with Edi Rama at the head in detention cells,” said Berisha. /argumentum.al
