Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has confirmed his entry in the Albanian Parliament in the new mandate he officially takes in September despite being proclaimed persona non- grata because of alleged corruption by US State Secretary a few months ago.
Socialist majority claimed Berisha should relinquish his mandate due to the accusations by the strategic ally which is managing the judiciary system through a thorough reform supporting the Socialist government in every step.
Berisha, the first president of the post communist Albania picked up by the US diplomacy in the beginnings of 1990s, said
after attending the DP National Assembly on Saturday that he was looking forward to returning to parliament.
“The task of every democrat today from this Assembly is a solemn oath, not to leave any stone unturned, every attempt should be made to overthrow the only narco-state in Europe,” said Berisha, who won enthusiastic applause as he entered the hall where the event took place.
“I can not wait, I can not wait, I am the founder of the pluralist parliament in Albania, I can not wait. Court proceedings are not emergency proceedings. I have a lot of confidence in my lawyer. I can tell you that we are in the final steps before filing a lawsuit to the judge. I am confident in justice,” Berisha said.
