TIRANA – The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) will hold key seats in the new coalition government as announced by its chairman Ali Ahmeti who struck a deal with SDSM’s Zoran Zaev who will be the Prime Minister of North Macedonia.
Ahmeti made the announcement on Wednesday after the meeting of the DUI’s General Council during which he presented the names of some of the ministers in the new government of Northern Macedonia, where snap parliamentary elections were held a few weeks ago. He said the new government should be based on the principle of broad consensus, adding that the SDSM-DUI coalition should make the right decisions to improve citizens’ lives.
According to the agreement, DUI will head some of the most important ministries, such as the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finances and Economy, as well as the chair of the Speaker of the 120-member Parliament. DUI will also head several other key ministries important for the political and social life of North Macedonia
Below are the names of some of the key portfolios of DUI in the new coalition government:
Speaker of Parliament – Talat Xhaferri
Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Bujar Osmani
Ministry of Finance – Fatmir Besimi
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Political System – Artan Grubi
Ministry of Economy – Kreshnik Bekteshi
Ministry of Environment-Naser Nuredini
Ministry of Information Society and Administration (Consultation process for finding a manager).
Ahmeti also mentioned the case of Naser Ziberi about whom he said that as a non-party person he contributed to the election result. However, according to him, Ziberi will continue to work as a notary until, as Ahmeti said, “we find a suitable post for him”.
In the July 15 parliamentary elections the coalition between SDSM and BESA won 46 deputies, VMRO-DPMNE 44, DUI 15, the Coalition Alliance for Albanians and Alternative 12, the Left 2 and the DPA one./argumentum.al
