The Democratic Union for Integration (BDI) has warned of possible riots in North Macedonia after the parliamentary elections, which will be held on May 8.
These riots, according to this party that is part of the Macedonian Government, are based on a “Russian scenario” coordinated, as it said, between the Albanian and Macedonian opposition, VMRO-DPMNE and the party, The Left, writes REL.
DUI, which is led by Ali Ahmeti, claimed through a statement that the insults, which according to it, the opposition is making towards its candidate for president, Bujar Osmani, as well as towards the prime minister with a technical mandate, Talat Xhaferi, are based on the “lack of the program election and the incitement of tensions due to the defeat in the elections”.
For this “scenario”, DUI said that it has also notified the international factor, but the communiqué does not specify what scenario it is about and whether it has received indications for this from the security services of North Macedonia.
“We welcome the decision of the OSCE-ODIHR to accompany the elections of April 24 and May 8 with 24 long-term observers and 300 short-term observers, as we estimate that these elections will be decisive for the future of the country to say yes to Europe, not Russia”, it was said in the DUI’s reaction.
But the Technical Prime Minister, Talat Xhaferi, said that the Government has no information on possible tensions before or after the double presidential and parliamentary elections.
“At the moment we do not have such data. The relevant institutions, the Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency and the special sector for security in the Ministry of Defense have reported on security aspects, but currently there are no data. But there is a tendency for hybrid actions and this should encourage the institutions to take preventive measures”, said Xhaferi during a visit to Tetovo.
Regarding DUI’s claims, the candidate for president of the united Albanian opposition, Arben Taravari, has also reacted, accusing this political entity of “hypocrisy”.
“These are ridiculous accusations and DUI does not like to say them. If any of the Albanian parties is close to Serbia, it is DUI… There is no way that the opposition can organize something when it does not have power. “If anyone is worried and nervous at this time, I think it’s no one more than DUI,” declared Taravari.
The presidential elections in North Macedonia will be held on April 24, while on April 8 the parliamentary elections together with the second round of the presidential elections.
