TIRANA, October 20 – The head of the Union Party for Human Rights (PBDNJ), Vangjel Dule, in a statement to the media from the Presidency of the Assembly, said on Friday that the report of the Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe on the Convention on the Protection of the Rights of Members of national minorities emphasized that measures should be taken against hate speech used on these communities.
“We are the only country in the Western Balkans that does not have such a practice and we do not guarantee the fundamental right of representation of national minorities. On the other hand, the report strongly stressed that effective protective policies should be taken and drafted, especially for the Greek national minority, in order that the development policies do not affect their cultivation of culture, property and do not limit the right to economic development,” said Dule.
On the other hand, he added, the report also paid attention to the territorial reform of 2014 and found that it violated the rights of minority members.
“The report said that measures should be taken against hate speech and hate crime against national minorities,” said Dule. /argumentum.al
