Eight victims and 563 New Cases of COVID-19 in Albania

Eight patients infected by COVID-19 lost their lives in the last 24 hours in Albania, while 563 other people were diagnosed affected by the virus, according to the latest update made by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday.
The victims were aged 33, 46, 60, 65, 66, 74 and 76 years old from Lushnja, Shkodra, Përrenjasi, Tirana, Pogradec and Durrës.
The case of the youngest age was a 33-year-old woman from Lushnja who is said to have had no concomitant illness.
Tuesday’s data show there was a significant increase in the number of tests, passing for the first time over 2,500 tests.
Local health authorities said that after 2,723 tests performed in public and private laboratories, of which “984 are tests performed for screening reasons”, 563 people tested positive (positivity 20.6%).
Already the total number of cases diagnosed since March has gone to 25,294 cases, of which 12,353 (48.8%) have recovered, 12,362 (48.87%) are still carrying the virus, while fatalities stand at 579 cases (2.28%).
The Ministry said that 150 people recovered
in the last 24 hours, while 367 patients are hospitalized, of which 15 are in intensive care at the three hospitals of Tirana, where COVID-19 patients are treated.
The regions of Tirana, Durrës and Fier remain with the most cases of COVID-19.
The capital currently has over 6 thousand active cases, while Durrës and Fier follow with about 1 thousand.
To somewhat curb the worrying trend of infection the Technical Committee of Experts proposed to the government to impose an 8-hour restriction on the movements and activities of bars and restaurants starting on Wednesday.
This measure is expected to have a major impact on Tirana, where areas frequented in the late hours of the night are seen as one of the most problematic spots in the spread of infection. /argumentum.al
