TIRANA, May 23 – The Minister of Energy, Belinda Balluku has declared that the price of electricity will not increase, just as there will be no shortage of electricity supply for all consumers, despite the crisis created by the Russian occupation of Ukraine.
Balluku made that announcement in the plenary session of Parliament on Monday in response to the accusations of the opposition MP, Jorida Tabaku.
“Today no one denies the increase of price of energy as from the Hungarian stock exchange to which we refer, as anywhere in the world. Because the price of gas due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has jumped to historically high limits, and consequently any energy production has a very high cost,” said Balliuku.
Further she said the current government had not touched the price of energy for household customers and small businesses and that has remained the same despite the crisis and this has been done with government subsidy. On the other hand there was no power outage for a minute due to the energy crisis as promised at the start of this crisis.
Balluku said it would be continued with resistance social packages to support all family members, small and medium businesses connected to the energy system, but she did not elaborate about the nature of these packages and when they will be implemented.
Also, the minister did not give explanations about the increase of the energy price for consumers who surpass the 700 kW limit per month and how much the increase will be for the energy over that limit. Public opinion has not been able to learn a precise answer on this although it is hinted at a price of the energy market, which is many times higher than the current one. Apparently, the government is afraid of the reaction of the massive ordinary consumers and keeps pending the situation until it sees fit to impose drastic measures. /Argumentum.al
