TIRANA, December 9 – The European People’s Party (EPP) has reacted strongly against the attack on the leader of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha, demanding that the event be punished.
In a statement to Faxnews after the attack on Berisha in the December 6 protest in Tirana, it is said that the EPP always supports the democratic rights of freedom of assembly and freedom of expression. “As PPE we have always defended the democratic rights of freedom of assembly and freedom of expression. Any attack against any peaceful demonstrator must be condemned and violations investigated and quickly prosecuted by the competent authorities,” said the statement of EPP released on Friday.
According to it, violence is never an acceptable tool in politics.
The serious incident took place on December 6 at the start of the opposition protest, where 31-year-old Gerti Shehu approached the head of DP, Sali Berisha and punched him in the face causing bleeding wounds. He was neutralized by Berisha’s bodyguards, who then handed him over to the police. /Argumentum.al
