TIRANA, July 8 – The American special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, has said that the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, will lose the opportunity if he refuses to implement the European Union’s plan for the de-escalation of the situation in the north of Kosovo.
According to Croatian news agency Hina, he made these comments in a conversation with a group of Croatian journalists on Friday in Zagreb, where he was on the sidelines of the Dubrovnik Forum.
Escobar is quoted as having said that there are signs that Belgrade is ready to accept the European demands for exiting the crisis, stressing that he cannot say the same for Prime Minister Kurti.
“We hope that at some point he will meet the European and American demand,” said Escobar, according to VoA.
Asked about the consequences that the rejection of the European plan could have and if one of them could be the withdrawal of KFOR troops, Escobar said that this is “not on the table”.
“Our partnership with Kosovo is a partnership with its people, not with a party or a political figure,” he was quoted as saying. /argumentum.al
