TIRANA, August 7 – Pristina’s official decision on Saturday to ban entry into Kosovo and declare Russian journalist Daria Aslamova non-grata for 5 years, whom they accuse of being a Russian spy whose aim is to destabilize the North of the country, has angered the former US envoy at the time of President Donald Trump on the issue of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Richard Grenell, who has recently been seen in a frontal attack against the government led by Albin Kurti.
So Grenell has criticized in a post on Twitter on Sunday the government’s decision to expell Aslamova, who is suspected of having strong military ties in Russia, and has even been photographed next to the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.
Grenell has considered her detention in the northern Kosovo as a terrible precedent, which, according to him, may cause other countries to ban Kosovar officials from entering their countries.
“While you have every right to kick out pro-Russian individuals (or anyone) you don’t like, you are also creating a precedent for other governments to ban Kosovo officials they don’t like…It’s a terrible precedent,” said Grenell.
Further he expressed his frustration over the decision of Kosovo authorities to reject Serbian stickers on license plates a measure of reciprocity which was postponed to next month because of US pressure.
The attack on Pristina by Grenell, an ex- US diplomat, over such a sensitive issue linked with espionage in favor of Russia and Serbia, and the pro- Serbia stances of US diplomats in Pristina and Belgrade pressing Kosovo to withdraw from the latest reciprocity decisions of Kurti government have put the PM in a difficult position not only towards Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic but also towards the people of Kosovo, who have the right to cast doubts on the real integrity of their government head.
On the other hand, how far is an ex- US diplomat allowed to act against the interests of Kosovo when he reminds other countries to ‘ban Kosovo officials they don’t like”.
A Serb diplomat could not have thought of a more foxy pressure against its adversary.
