Foreign Minister Olta Xhacka reiterated Albania’s position in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in a meeting with the diplomatic corps in Tirana on Tuesday.
She said that Albania is on the side of the EU and the US in this conflict, adding that they are discussing the imposed sanctions, which are of individual and economic character.
“We are considering canceling agreements on the movement of Russian diplomats and officials,” said the top diplomat. Further, Minister Xhacka stated that the events in Ukraine prove that the isolation of the Western Balkans is a high cost for the EU.
“This makes it very clear that the cost of isolation is much higher than the cost of integration. The signals we are receiving now show that the EU is focused now as it has not been for a while,” she said. According to the FM, if the EU is united and committed, if it shows the same determination it is showing in support of Ukraine now, the Western Balkans will no longer be vulnerable to attempts to incite trouble and strife and will benefit the security of Europe as a whole. / Argumentum.al
