TIRANA, April 6 – Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha spoke to the media after the meeting of the Re-establishment Commission, highlighting some of the topics discussed on Wednesday.
Berisha attacked the US ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim after the designation of the head of the Democratic Party (DP) parliamentary group, Enkelejd Alibeaj by her as the alternate chairman of the party. He called Ambassador Kim a ‘governor’ and said it was a warning of her failure.
“It was a pre-warned failure. As you know, Governor Kim has set aside the role of ambassador that in accordance with the Vienna Convention has no right to interfere in the internal life of a political force,” said Berisha, who has been the protégé of the US whose State Department picked him up as the first president of Albania when the communist regime fell in this Balkan country in the beginning of 1990s.
It is not known what has angered the US being so hostile against its former closest ally declaring him persona non grata and exerting undiplomatic pressure not to let him be elected in the DP leadership. Through her actions Ambassador Kim is playing the role of the conductor of the DP in the sense who should lead that political force after the resignation of Lulzim Basha, her puppet.
Regarding the parliamentary group, Berisha said it is legitimate. “The Re-establishment Commission voted by 4900 members is completely legitimate. There are two main political forums leading the DP – the Re-establishment Commission and the parliamentary group,” Berisha said, adding that the Assembly of the DP of December 11, 2021 is without doubt highly important and its decisions are indisputable. /Argumentum.al
