TIRANA, June 12 – The former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi died on Monday at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan, his doctors said in a statement.
He was readmitted last Friday for planned medical checks related to chronic leukaemia.
The 86-year-old had recently spent 45 days in hospital being treated for the blood cancer and a lung infection, before being discharged exactly three weeks ago.
The three-time premier was one of Italy’s most successful businessmen and an influential, yet controversial, politician, said Euronews in a report.
He was a dominant force in Italian politics for the last 30 years and still headed his centre-right party, Forza Italia, despite suffering several health issues since 2016.
His death has been described in the Italian press as the “end of an era”.
Albanian politics considers the death of Berlusconi as a ‘sad news’
Albanian politicians also reacted to the death of Silvio Berlusconi, expressing their condolences to his family and Italian people.
The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, said goodbye through a post on his Facebook social network.
” Addio Presidente e buon amici dell’ Albania! (Farewell President and good friend of Albania),” wrote Rama next to a photo of Berlusconi whom he met in July 2013, where at that time they discussed the cooperation between the two countries and the increase of Italian investments in Albania.
President Bajram Begaj also reacted to the death of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
“Sad news! The friend of the Albanians, Silvio Berlusconi, dies. Rest in peace!” said Begaj in the condolence message.
The former prime minister of Albania, Sali Berisha, started the Monday press conference with a minute of silence for Berlusconi, whom he considered a precious friend for Albania, Kosovo and the Democratic Party (DP). /argumentum.al
