TIRANA, September 29 – “I have never violated the law on this planet, while I don’t remember of having been on another planet. So let SPAK do its job.” This was declared by the head of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta who said on Thursday that he has never violated any law in his life.Meta, a former president and prime minister, said that he is not afraid of any demand from the special prosecution authority for serious crimes known as SPAK and will respond fully.
“I will answer with the greatest availabilityto every call that will be made to meand answer every question that will be askeand, and I will make it public. I believe that everyone can see what that justice system represents,” said Meta.FP head also commented on the case in the Court of Tirana regarding the leadership of the Democratic Party, evaluating the move of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha to return to the headship of the party. Further Meta underlined that the actions of former DP head Lulzim Basha were coordinated with those of Prime Minister Edi Rama, harming the entire opposition. “We have followed an open and transparent process of Mr. Berisha that was called ‘Foltore’ (rostrum). There was a celebration of them (Democrats) that happened on December 11 at the national stadium. We also have some events like January 8 or the congress with 2,000 chairs and 5,000 delegates. We also have a decree of March 6 that showed which the real DP is. We have an example, the strongest stronghold of the DP in Albania is Shkodra which is the largest and most democratic city. If we look at the ratio of forces there it’s 4 to 1. So this is an exhausted debate,” said Meta.
FP head said he knew very well that Basha was in the service of Rama and mentioned actions such as the burning of parliamentary mandates and non-participation in local elections.Freedom Party is in alliance with DP and Meta has recently declared that the two parties will run with joint candidates in the upcoming local elections next year.
