TIRANA, March 30 – The head of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta, reacted to the government’s decision to increase salaries. In a statement to the media on Thursday, Meta underlined that “the prime minister is openly violating the Electoral Code”.
According to him, Albanians were left unprotected by the increase of living costs.
“While the prices increased drastically, salaries and pensions remained unchanged by this government, which has never protected the interests of the citizens. Now Edi Rama reappears with deceptions and empty promises on the eve of the elections, violating the Electoral Code, because he is desperate from the trial and punishment by vote that awaits him on May 14,” declared the FP head.
“He undertook this move simply and only to manipulate the Albanians with empty promises. What the Albanians have proven is that the Rama government has increased the cost of living, while salaries and pensions during his 10 governing years have had the lowest growth ever,” he said.
Meta added that “prices increased rapidly from 2013 to 2022. It is a fact that in Rama’s administration the minimum and average wages are lower in the region and in other countries. Why did you (Rama) wait until April to give alms to pensioners when the state has collected the income since the end of December 2022?” /Argumentum.al
