TIRANA, July 22 – The Chairman of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta, has highlighted the importance of the action of the opposition to put an end to the destruction of parliamentarism and to restore accountability at all levels.
In a press conference on Saturday, Meta reacted to Friday’s session of the Assembly, where the law on the legalization of cannabis was approved.
“A law criticized by everyone and warned that it will damage the future of the country, which has institutions that are quite damaged and compressed to control the implementation of such a delicate law, which has failed in many countries with a much more functional state than Albania. Even more so when it is very clear that all international reports unfortunately lambast our country as a country which has turned into a very important center of drug trafficking,” he said.
Meta also emphasized that “yesterday at midnight, the diplomas of the medical students were taken hostage by the majority in the most arrogant and unconstitutional way.” According to him, “this is a very arbitrary, unconstitutional decision.”
Meta also said that on Thursday the Assembly rejected the motion for a debate with interpellation on the case of Arben Ahmetaj, who has already fled the country.
“It was rejected in a completely anti-democratic way and contrary to the regulation of the Parliament of Albania,” he said. /argumentum.al
