TIRANA, June 4 – The Deputy head of the Freedom Party (FP), Erisa Xixho, has addressed an open letter to all ambassadors in Albania on the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.
International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is a United Nations observance held on June 4 every year. It was established on 19 August 1982.
As the initiator of the law on the “National Register of those convicted of sexual crimes”, Xhixho expressed the maximum commitment to putting it at the service of the safety of children in kindergartens, schools and in all the environments they frequent.
“Unfortunately, almost 1 year after the adoption of the law, the register has not been created, even though I have officially requested information from the responsible bodies in order to promote the implementation of the law as soon as possible,” said Xhixho on social networks on Sunday.
She recalled that on July 21 last year, the Assembly of Albania approved with 124 votes in favor and only one abstention the law on the “National Registry for those convicted of sexual crimes”.
According to her, the drafting and approval of this law has been a necessity for many years in Albania, since according to statistics almost 80 percent of sexual crimes in Albania are committed against children and teenagers.
The law entered into force on January 22, 2023, but unfortunately it has not yet become applicable, being in open violation of the law.
“Considering the creation of this register as an emergency, in compliance with the law approved by a majority of votes, I ask for your (ambassadors) support in working with the institutions that have the legal obligation to make it accessible to citizens,” Xhixho said in the letter sent to the Ambassadors. /argumentum.al
