The German Ambassador to Tirana, Peter Zingraf has stated that Albania has made steps forward for the talks with the European Union. The ambassador made that comment in Shkodra, northern Albania, on Tuesday. It has a lot of work to do in terms of conditions to meet, he said, although the German diplomat wanted to encourage Albania saying it has made steps forward. “It received a ‘yes’ for EU membership talks. The Chancellery has its doors open for Albania and we are working intensively on this topic. I think the German presidency’s focus on Covid and this situation has not been negative for Albania but positive.”
Germany has the EU rotating presidency until the end of this year and both Albania and North Macedonia expect to start accession negotiations during Berlin’s presidency.
“A strong EU, a stronger partner for Albania. Albania has a lot to do. These are conditions to be met. It should not do this for Brussels or Berlin, but for itself as the question of the High Court and other conditions, ”said Zingraf.
Referring to the political crisis and tensions between the parties in Albania, the German diplomat said: “We are in the middle of an election campaign and there are always positive reasons to move forward in these times.”
Albania will hold parliamentary elections on April 25 next year but the political situation is very tense with majority and opposition having many divergences regarding the electoral system. /argumentum.al
