TIRANA, November 22 – German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will visit Albania on December 1 and 2 after a visit to North Macedonia which will start on November 29.
The trip is a further signal that Germany is intensively supporting and following the European path of the Western Balkans as a whole and of Albania in particular, it is reported on Tuesday.
This is the first time in 27 years that a German president pays a visit to Albania. Federal President Steinmeier had the opportunity to get to know Tirana in his previous position as Foreign Minister of Germany.
The agenda of the visit includes talks with President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama as well as a speech in the Assembly. A meeting with students from Albania and other countries of the Western Balkans is also planned for a discussion on dealing with the communist past. He will also visit a German company, where economic potential and opportunities for German businesses in Albania will be discussed.
The German President is expected to visit the southern city of Berat, a tourist attraction because of its ancient history. /Argumentum.al
