TIRANA, June 16 – The Council of Ministers dismissed the mayor of Kukës, Safet Gjici, after the publication of a video scandal in the media, reported the state-run news agency ATA on Friday.
The Minister of Finance and Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj stated during a statement to the media that the decision was taken in Friday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers.
Earlier, it was the mayor of Kukes himself who declared that he had submitted his resignation from the position he held since 2019.
It is announced that after the publication of the scandal, the prosecution authority for serious crimes, SPAK, has launched a criminal investigation for the former Mayor without specifying the charges that will be brought against him.
In the meantime, the Democratic Party (DP) headed by Sali Berisha has called on Prime Minister Edi Rama to notify the President of the Republic of the vacancy after the dismissal of the former head of the Municipality of Kukës, Safet Gjici, in order for Bajram Begaj to announce as soon as possible the election date for this municipality.
Through a public statement, the DP said that the inappropriate video of the former official in his office with a woman has served to bring to the attention of public opinion some facts related to Rama’s power and abuses.
The use of the mayor’s office as a bedroom or a public house shows the lack of respect for the institutions and for the voters, and that Edi Rama’s power is exercised in no other way than by violating the law and ethics codes, desecrating state offices, said the DP statement. /argumentum.al
