TIRANA, September 5 – For the first time after 3 years in the prison cell of The Hague, the former President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has broken his silence. In an interview for “Gazeta Nacionale”, Thaçi said as quoted by TV Klan on Tuesday that he does not miss the office of the President or the Prime Minister, but his family does.
“Yes, I miss my parents, who have entered the stage of old age, even though I often talk on the phone. Their coming here last year to visit was a special and unforgettable emotion,” he said.
Thaci had an opportunity to pay a visit to his family to see his sick father during the last days.
The latest crisis that Kosovo is going through due to the situation in the north has not left him indifferent. “Each crisis delays Kosovo a lot, but also undermines the efforts of international friends to consolidate the state of Kosovo on the domestic level, but also in its international affirmation. International support should not be taken for granted.”
Asked about the relations with the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama Thaci said that his visit to The Hague impressed him and he appreciated how he is continuing to build and affirm European Albania.
He also made a comment about the negotiations with Belgrade. “Permanent peace must be achieved with Serbia, with mutual recognition, legally binding. The more this agreement is delayed, the more delayed Kosovo will be in NATO and the EU, and the weaker the US support will be,” he said.
Asked about the war in Kosovo, Thaçi said that we must now look to the future. /argumentum.al
