TIRANA – As 22 new cases of people infected with coronavirus were confirmed on Monday a senior health official has declared that the epidemic has been mild in Albania while predicted further facilitation of the restrictions in the county.
“The epidemic has been mild in Albania according to the data of epidemiology, health sector and supportive mechanism. The measures which were taken on time and the maximum engagement have shown that this epidemic has been mild,” declared Eugena Tomini, chief of Surveillance and Epidemic Intelligence Service at the Public Health Institute (ISHP) on Monday.
The new 22 cases during the last 24 hours bring the total number of infected people to 584 in Albania since the outbreak of the epidemic on March 9 this year. “The number of hospitalized patients which stands at 45, is the actual indicator showing that the situation is under control,” said Tomini on the first day of the sixth week of the pandemic.
“During the last 24 hours, 233 people suspected of having COVID-19 were tested. So far, 5,775 suspected cases have been tested and 584 of them have resulted positive,” said Tomini. There is no change in the number of fatalities which remains fortunately at 26 so far.
Being hopeful for keeping the situation under control Tomini said it is being followed the same strategy regarding the measures which have been taken and she gave signals that further facilitation of restrictive measures will be taken during the process in the coming weeks. /argumentum.al
