TIRANA, January 21 – Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by ministers, deputies of the Socialist Party, the families of the 4 killed protesters, as well as citizens, paid tribute on Saturday to the victims of January 21 on the boulevard “Dëshmorët e Kombit”.
“Homage in the endless waiting for justice to do justice, while the truth is universally known and a new shocking fact has just come to light…,” wrote Rama on social networks, while sharing photos from today’s tributes.
Today marks 12 years since January 21, 2011, when during a Socialist Party protest, on the boulevard “Dëshmorët e Kombit”, in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, four protesters were killed by the Guard of the Republic. For the murder of Ziver Veiz, Faik Myrtaj and Hekuran Deda, the Court of Appeal of Tirana sentenced the former head of the Guard, Ndrea Prendi to 1 year in prison and the guard Agim Llupo to 3 years and a few months. The Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana decided in June 2021 to resume the investigation into the murder of Aleks Nika, which had been suspended as there was no suspected perpetrator.
Aleks Nika, Ziver Veizi, Hekuran Deda and Faik Myrtaj have been declared “Martyrs of the Motherland” by the government of Albania. /Argumentum.al
