TIRANA, October 6 – “The North is part of the Republic of Kosovo, a sovereign and independent state, and the Republic of Kosovo is part of the international community recognized by more than 115 countries of the world.”
This was declared by the Foreign Minister of Kosovo Donika Gërvalla at a press conference in Tirana on Friday where she attended a foreign ministers’ meeting ahead of the October 16 summit on the Berlin Process.
“Sovereignty should not be discussed by anyone. We ask Serbia to recognize the reality of this country. Sometimes there are statements that surprise us a lot. I don’t want to contribute to the increase of misunderstandings,” she said.
According to Gervalla, Kosovo has no country closer than Albania and regardless of public statements the two countries cooperate like never before. “Everyone together should talk less and see how they can help the situation more,” Pristina’s top diplomat said.
Regarding Kosovo’s participation in the Berlin Process Summit to be held in Tirana, Gërvalla said that the representation will be decided by the institutions.
She also spoke about the idea thrown by Prime Minister Edi Rama for a conference on Kosovo, and she emphasized that peace conferences were held during the wars in the Balkans and that Kosovo is not an object, but a subject.
“There is no need for peace conferences, they were held during the wars in the Balkans. There is no need for international conferences because Kosovo is not an object, it is a subject. As a subject, Kosovo participates in all forums. We needed coordination, a more sincere coordination between our institutions,” said Gërvalla. She said that Kosovo is committed to solving all open issues with Serbia in a dialogue process. /argumentum.al
