TIRANA, October 25 – The Government of Kosovo has said that it agrees with the new plan of the European Union, which includes the draft for the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, presented last Saturday by Western diplomats to the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia.
The envoy of the European Union for the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, accompanied by the American envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, and the senior advisers of the leaders of Germany, France, and Italy, stayed in Pristina and held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and then met with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić in Belgrade. The EU then confirmed that a draft for the Association was presented to the leaders.
Without detailing what exactly it is about, the European Union has confirmed for Koha that they have made a “modern European proposal” for the Association of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo and now they expect from the parties to “act quickly”.
The Government of Kosovo announced on Wednesday that Prime Minister Kurti has agreed that the new EU plan, which includes a package for the comprehensive implementation of the Basic Agreement, will be the framework for continuing further discussions with the allied states.
“Prime Minister Kurti has confirmed his agreement that this new plan is the framework for continuing further discussions with the allied states, the USA, Germany, France and Italy, which should provide a strong security component and also strengthen the perspective of membership in international organizations,” said the Government.
Kurti is expected to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Thursday. Similar meetings are expected for Vucic, but it is not confirmed yet if there will be a meeting between him and Kurti. /argumentum.al
