TIRANA, December 14 – The Presidency of the Council of the EU and representatives of the European Parliament have reached an agreement on visa-free travel for citizens of Kosovo in the Schengen area. The new rules will allow citizens of Kosovo to travel to the EU without visas for a period of stay of 90 days in any 180-day period.
This exemption from the visa requirement will apply from the date of commencement of operation of the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) and in any case no later than 1 January 2024. “Kosovo has made significant progress in all blocks of the visa liberalization roadmap. Based on this assessment, the Commission proposed the removal of visas for holders of passports issued by Kosovo,” said the announcement on Wednesday.
Such an expected step will ensure that the entire Western Balkan region is under the same visa regime. “The commission will continue to actively monitor the implementation of these requirements, including the harmonization of visa policies, through the post-visa liberalization mechanism,” the announcement stated. /Argumentum.al
